Phone Banking
One of the most effective ways for a volunteer to help Sen.
Barack Obama’s campaign is to phone bank. The campaign provides
home phone numbers of registered Democrats and volunteers call
those people to make sure they are registered for the primary,
gauge support for Sen. Obama, answer any questions they may have
about Sen. Obama’s positions and – hopefully - sign up a new volunteer.
Phone bankers then take the information they glean from each
call and enter it onto a call sheet that is then entered into
the campaign’s database. This information is gold to a campaign
and gives us an idea where our strongest support is and if a
trend is developing that may affect the race. Our phone banking
has already shown quite a bit of support for Sen. Obama, but
there are still many more “undecideds” out there to be won over.
The headquarters has many phone lines dedicated to phone banking.
But during overflow situations, or during a special phone banking
event, volunteers are asked to use their cellphones to help out.
Sacramento For Obama volunteers have already made thousands of
calls and have been steadily gaining on the best calling groups
in the state. With more volunteers electing to donate their time
phone banking, there’s no reason we can’t become the top phone
banking group in California.

Canvassing
Like phone banking, canvassing is the heart of true grassroots campaigning. It’s
where the shoe leather meets the road, the knuckles meet the doors and the good
word about Sen. Barack Obama meets the ears of registered voters in our area.
We will be doing multiple voter registration canvasses throughout the Sacramento
metropolitan area and we often target underserved constituencies.
Canvassers are placed onto teams of two and given walk sheets that detail names and
addresses of registered voters in a particular targeted area. The face-to-face contact
is invaluable to a campaign. Not only can we effectively get Sen. Obama’s name out
there, but canvassers can answer questions and provide literature to the voter to
help them choose Sen. Obama as their candidate, along with the valuable service of
bringing voter registration to people's door.
For more information on canvassing, call (916) 400-3252 or e-mail Ted at
dangerward@yahoo.com or Brian at
brian.dilkes@gmail.com.

public, and work on campaign projects. Shifts are 10-1, 1-4 and
4-7 (4-6 on weekends) with two workers assigned per shift. Volunteers
must be able to commit to a regular time slot. If interested, sign
up at the front desk, or contact the Office Manager, Michele Taylor,

Hillary Clinton and her supporters keep trying to solve for X. They're playing the angles like it's geometry and twisting the numbers and using some unknown form of trigonometry trying to solve a big problem - they're still losing.
